No Safe Haven, book #18

I bet I tricked you all reading that "P" book last time.  ;)  That was just a Book Club Book, so I went back to my "N" book for my Read thru the Alphabet game.

This is one I have had on my Paperwhite for a very long time, probably since when I got my first Kindle.  I couldn't wait to load it up with good books without paying $10 each, so someone told me about this website at the time where you could get them for $5 or less.  I have no idea now what the name of the website was, but it was great to get me started.  This book is not even in print anymore!

Was it good?  Worthy of the 4+ stars 83% of the 379 people who reviewed the book? Eh, I'd probably give it 3-4 stars.  The writing was a not high quality, but the story was very engaging.  Did I feel like I was really stuck on the mountainside in Alaska during a blizzard?  No.  Was I nervous about how it was going to end or how many more people were actually going to die?  Yes.    So, read & decide for yourself.

Jenna and Andi Tikaani-Gray are hoping for a fresh start. Though twelve year-old Andi has long struggled with a rare medical disorder, she and her mother have finally received good news from out-of-town specialists. It's news they desperately needed, especially after the recent death of Jenna's husband (Andi's dad) in a car accident.   But as they are flying home to Alaska, ready to begin again, the unthinkable happens. The pilot sabotages their small plane and crashes into Sultana, one of the most remote and dangerous mountains in the Land of the Midnight Sun. Even worse, a winter storm is headed their way along with someone who doesn't want to save them, but to kill them.  Only one man can keep them alive: Cole Maddox, the mysterious last-minute passenger who joined them on their flight. But trust doesn't come easy to Jenna or Andi and they both sense Cole is hiding something.  A relentless tale of survival and suspense unfolds, involving military technology designed by Jenna's late husband that some would do anything to possess. (Picture and some of the description at Amazon, other bits I have no idea ....)

I keep telling myself I should take a break between finishing one book and starting another, but I'm just in a reading mood!  Wonder which book I'll pick next?

Pieces of Forever, book #17

So the other day when I was getting my Book Club Journal ready for Book Club, I was looking at the book we picked, and I thought to myself, "Self, did you read this book?"  So I did some research and realized I had indeed NOT read the book!  So luckily it was short book and I had only just started my "N" book, so I quickly read this one in time for our meeting Thursday night!  :)

The scars on her face are nothing to the scars on her heart. But can God help her find healing―and love?  Eight years ago, Ava and Joseph had the perfect future planned—he would go to veterinary school, she would embark on a career with an exclusive modeling agency, and they’d eventually get married and have three dogs and four children. Until a terrible accident changed everything. Unwilling to believe they could still have a future, she made Joseph promise to leave and live out their dreams without her.  Joseph has never broken a promise to Ava. Until now.  Because before he made that stupid promise to leave, they’d made each other another promise—one of forever. Now that he’s done with veterinary school, he’s determined to return to River Falls and show her that his promise still stands. That he loves her just the way she is.  But first he’ll have to find a way to crack the safe she’s erected around her heart.  Fortunately, he has help: in the form of three lovable dogs, a special group of sick kids, and more than a few slices of pie. But will it be enough to convince Ava that their forever is worth fighting for? Or will he be left picking up the pieces―alone?  (picture and description from Amazon)

Now back to my "N" book where I have left a mom and her young doughter stranded in Alaska from a plane wreck with only one person who can help them, but can he be trusted?!?

My Stubborn Heart, book #16

Here I am half way through the alphabet!

Super cute book with lots of God and lots of fun and some honest and realistic people.  10/10.

Kate Donovan is burned out on work, worn down by her dating relationships, and in need of an adventure. When her grandmother asks Kate to accompany her to Redbud, Pennsylvania, to restore the grand old house she grew up in, Kate jumps at the chance, takes a leave of absence from her job as a social worker, and the two of them set off.  Upon her arrival in Redbud, Kate meets Matt Jarreau, the man her grandmother has hired to renovate the house. From the first moment she meets Matt, Kate can't help but be attracted to him--he's got a combination of good looks and charisma that draw and tug at her. But she knows there's zero chance of a romance between them. Matt's in love with his dead wife, and even if he weren't, Kate realizes that she's way too ordinary for him. For Matt Jarreau is no ordinary guy. Kate discovers that he was once a great NHL hockey player who left the sport when his wife--an honest-to-goodness former Miss America--was diagnosed with brain cancer. Matt's been hiding from people, from God, and from his past ever since. Yet Kate is absolutely determined to befriend him, to try to reach him, to help him in some small way.  No, Kate's not looking for love. She knows better than that by now. But when the stilted, uncomfortable interactions between Kate and Matt slowly shift into something more, is God finally answering the longing of her heart? Or will Kate be required to give up more than she ever dreamed?  (picture and description at Amazon)

Several "N" books to chose from, wonder what will be next?!?

Love Unexpected, book #15

I wasn't sure I was going to like this book initially, but in the end I absolutely loved it.  Yes, some things need to be kept in the past, but some things need to be said.  Sweet story of good things for undeserving people finally coming around.

All Emma Chambers ever wanted was a home, but when her steamboat sinks just outside Presque Isle, she's left destitute and with no place to stay.  An unlikely solution arises when the lighthouse keeper arrives in town. He's just lost his wife and is having a difficult time caring for his child. So a traveling preacher gets the idea that the keeper and Emma might be the answer to each other's dilemma. After a hasty marriage, she finds herself heading to the lighthouse with this handsome but quiet stranger. Nothing in her aimless life, though, has prepared her for parenting a rambunctious toddler, as well as managing a household.  Emma soon suspects Patrick may be hiding something from her, and then she hears a disturbing rumor about the circumstances surrounding his late wife's death. It seems as if her wish for a home and family of her own could end up leading her once more into turbulent waters.  (pictures and description at Amazon)

Kiss the Bride : Three Summer Love Stories, book #14

I had a really hard time finding a "K" book because apparently I only had one in my vast collection!! And I even looked at my "real books" too!  I guess if I make it back around again some time I'll just have to read a book on Korea or something.  😆

Meet the people who make it all happen—the photographers, chefs, and the writers who have helped orchestrate and document the perfect day for countless couples—as they find their own happy endings in three sweet novellas.

Picture Perfect Love: A June Wedding Story by Melissa McClone

When image becomes everything, it’s up to love to refocus the heart. Photographer Jenna Harrison wants every bride and groom to look picture perfect on their special day. But her own heart is still broken, the unworn wedding dress hanging in her closet a reminder that relationships aren’t always as perfect as they look through her camera lens. Attorney Ashton Vance is the one that got away, but he wrongly blamed Jenna for ruining his political aspirations. Even if Jenna can forgive him, dare he hope for a second chance at her love?

I Hope You Dance: A July Wedding Story by Robin Lee Hatcher

Will a sworn bachelor determined to stay single fall in love with his dance teacher? Grant Nichols is a genius in the kitchen and a klutz on the dance floor. But his friend’s wedding is shaping up to be a shindig the likes of which Kings Meadow has never seen—including dancing. Lots of dancing. Former rodeo queen Skye Foster is offering dance lessons for the wedding party. Grant and Skye are no match on paper. But when they step onto the dance floor, they create a melody all their own.

Love on a Deadline: An August Wedding Story by Kathryn Springer

MacKenzie “Mac” Davis returns to her hometown of Red Leaf, Wisconsin, and takes a job at the weekly newspaper writing about social events. When Hollis Channing, Mac’s high school nemesis, returns to Red Leaf to marry her celebrity fiancé, the editor asks Mac to cover all the festivities for the newspaper. The last thing Mac wants to do is reconnect with the person who made her life miserable when she was a teenager . . . unless it’s spending time with Ethan Channing, the bride’s older brother—and Mac’s first crush.  (picture and description at Amazon)

Luckily my next book was easier to pick out!
